The Oversized Tweed Blazer
The oversized tweed blazer is the perfect jacket update for Autumn. Borrowed from the boys, the length and silhouette is much more modern than the traditional preppy tweed blazer.
I found this one from H&M. At first I was hesitant due to the price. It was $69.95. I was conflicted because my last post was all about consuming responsibly. Was I contradicting myself by purchasing a jacket from a fast fashion retailer? The price was great for my wallet but was it a bad move on the ethical front?
For peace of mind I looked up the Baptist World Aid Australia Ethical Fashion Guide. It grades 308 fashion brands on what they are doing to reduce the risk of exploitation and forced labour in their supply chains. I was pleased to find that H&M received an overall grade of B+ with A+ for Policies, A+ Knowing Your Supplies, B Auditing & Supplier Relationships and a C- for Worker Empowerment. I could make the purchase knowing that this retailer is doing better than majority in the industry who are on the average of C+. This report is handy to have on hand. Whenever in doubt, look up the retailer.
After doing the research, I happily made the purchase from H&M. I am very happy with the jacket and the affordable price to match.
