Dress Like A New Yorker
You don't have to live in New York to dress like a New Yorker.
The Big Apple is known as one of the most stylish cities in the world, and as a melting pot for fashionistas and creatives, no wonder it’s recognised as one.
I hadn't returned to New York since I lived there 3 years ago, so when I visited earlier this year I wanted to slide back into my old self as a stylish New Yorker.
I attempted to up my style game, as everyone does when they visit NYC. Yet, as a tourist, walking the cobble stone streets for kilometres everyday didn’t meld well with the fabulous outfits I had envisaged. Instead I had to incorporate statement pieces in my look, such as over-the-knee boots and a wide brimmed hat, which were practical and comfortable for walking, plus added style to the mix.
While shopping on Broadway one chilly afternoon, I stopped into J.Crew - Men's Shop where a dapper sales assistant approached me and exclaimed,
"Honey, you look incredible. Your outfit is so on point."
I was flattered by his statement. I felt like I had fulfilled the stylish New Yorker role. I have no doubt that his comment had everything to do with the hat and my boots. Without them I would have looked the same as everybody else on the street.
So you don't have to be a New Yorker to be stylish. With just a few statement pieces or accessories, you can stand out and look every bit the part.
