10 tips for getting your beauty sleep
I know I'm not alone in saying that I love sleep. The feeling of being well rested and fresh in the morning can make your day 100% better and more productive.
Collaborating with Slipsilk Pillowcases, I decided to put together top 10 things that ensures you have the best beauty sleep, including a few points that I need to work on...
1. EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE
There are many benefits of going to bed early including, energy, mood and productivity the following day. The earlier you go to bed before midnight, the better the quality of sleep you will have, compared to the hours after midnight.
Try and go to bed before 10pm and enjoy waking up before the rest of the city has roused in their beds.
2. STICK TO A SCHEDULE
Think about your optimum hours of sleep and then create a sleep routine. Train your body clock to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, yes even on the weekends. If you do that you'll have no trouble falling asleep and jumping out of bed in the morning, even without the help of an alarm.
I know that I require eight hours of sleep. If I have any less I'll be exhausted the next day. When I have yoga at 6am, I'm motivated to get the proper amount of shuteye the night before and am not distracted by episodes of The Bachelor...then when the alarm goes off at 5:35am, I jump out of bed with ease.
3. KEEP A NOTEPAD NEXT TO THE BED
If thoughts or emotions are running havoc in your mind, or you're making endless lists in your head, write them down to get them out of your head and onto paper. You'll have a better chance falling asleep with a clear mind.
4. USE A SILK PILLOWCASE
Sleeping on a silk pillowcase allows your skin to glide across the pillow as you sleep. Cotton pillowcases scratch and pulls on the delicate skin on the face, which can result in permanent wrinkles.
Before I tried the Slipsilk Pillowcase for myself, I wasn’t sure what the hype was about. Now that I use one, I'm obsessed. My hair is dramatically less frizzy in the morning as the silk doesn't pulled against the hair as cotton does, and I don't wake up with the usual pillow-crease marks on my face. Winner!
5. PUT DOWN THE PHONE HALF AN HOUR BEFORE BED...
...And pick up a book or a magazine instead. This time before bed will allow your eyes to rest and mind to calm down. This is one point that I definitely need to work on.
6. SPRAY A LAVENDER SCENT ON YOUR PILLOW
Lavender scent is calming, stress-relieving and anxiety-reducing. I like This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray from MECCA.
7. REMOVE MAKE-UP AND USE A MOISTURIsING MASK
Always remove your make-up before bed. While it doesn’t exactly help you fall asleep, it makes waking up and looking fresh in the morning easier. I use Marula Cleansing Oil to take off my make-up and cleanse my face. For a moisturising mask I use La Clinica's Sensitive Skin Soothing Protection Moisture Replenishing Mask. I apply this before bed and always wake up fresh faced.
8. WEAR AN EYEMASK
An eye mask blocks out the light allowing you to get to sleep quicker. The Slipsilk Eye Mask if the ultimate luxury for bed.
9. DON'T DRINK ON WORK NIGHTS
This is another one for me, as I love a glass of red after work. Admittedly though I do feel a little groggy (pardon the pun) the next morning, even after my eight hours of rest. Try for a few nights off a week, it's well worth waking up with a fresh and active mind.
10. MEDITATE BEFORE BED
Meditating before bed is a great way to wind down your mind and body before bed. Do some yoga, stretch, sit or lie still and clear your mind of thoughts. Some helpful apps to help you meditate include Calm and Head Space.
Hope this helps with your night time beauty rest. Let me know what you do to get your beauty sleep.
