Know the Basics

There are a few basic things to know when it comes to winter dressing.

  1. Coats are worth investing in.
  2. Layering makes the outfit.
  3. Don't save your 'good clothes' for a special occasion.

Now let's break down these three points. Scroll down to read more...

1. COATS

Coats are one thing that everyone needs in their wardrobe. Styles come in and out but a classic coat is a staple and very worthy investment. When you find a coat that suits you and fits perfectly, snap it up because a great coat can last you years.

This grey woollen 'Endless' coat from SHAHN, a Melbourne label, is luxurious, warm and versatile. A coat like this could easily be worn over a sports-lux outfit with sneakers or as I have worn it here with leather pants and a tuxedo jacket.

2. Layering

Layering is probably one of the best parts of winter dressing. A piece can be really simple on its own, but with layers, it can suddenly become an interesting outfit. Accessories too can add another dimension to a minimal outfit. Hats, shoes, scarves, gloves and bags are great for this. Read this post for more about these essentials.

3. OCCASIONS

There is no need to save your good stuff for a special occasion, as I mentioned in this post.

This is my Gucci tuxedo jacket I found in a vintage store in Paris. I often wear the matching Gucci tuxedo pants without the jacket or vice versa. I feel great when I wear my 'good clothes' and feeling great goes hand-in-hand with confidence, so why shouldn't I feel like that everyday? Plus the cost-per-wear of these items proves you should get as much wear as possible!
