Wolf Lane
My love for clothing stemmed from a young age but I only really developed my own style after I finished university and moved to New York City. The big apple exposed me to ways of dressing I had never seen in Australia and it made me view style in a whole new light. NYC showed me that style isn't about wearing trends or sporting the latest Prada pumps, it's about dressing for you, wearing something that makes you shine with confidence.
When my American grandmother, Elaine, passed away in January 2012, I inherited some amazing vintage pieces from her wardrobe. A pair of Alaia ballet flats, black Chanel flats, an Yves Saint Laurent skirt, Valentino pants and this Louis Feraud shirt, were among the cherished items I was given. She loved colour, prints and glamour. She had great taste in designers and chose quality pieces that complimented her. Although she was slight and had a bad back towards the end of her life (she lived until she was 92 years old) her clothes and shoes fit me perfectly. And best of all, they make me feel wonderful.
My style now is a mix of current brands of good quality and designer vintage, courtesy of Grandma and overseas travel. Whether I'm wearing a pair of boyfriend jeans, a silk shirt and a trench, or a silk dress from New York and ankle boots, Grandma's pieces always find themselves incorporated into my outfits.
If only she could see how the clothes she loved so much have been given a new lease of life.
